Simulation Version 15

What an amazing event! EPCOT turned 30, and I was able to share my Horizons simulation with hundreds of people over the course of four days. I’ll post more about the event itself later, but I promised that I’d post the latest version as soon as I possibly could after the anniversary event, and here it is. You’ll notice that quite a bit has changed. Also, a few of you have reported issues with the unity player crashing, so I’ve included a downloadable version that you can run outside your web browser. This should not only run smoother in general, but it also provides you with a dialogue box to set your quality and resolution settings. Adjusting these settings should allow you to play the simulation smoothly, no matter what your system specifications are.

As always, feedback is welcome!

  1. when i try to open it it says un suported browesr

  2. I am excited about this update, but it won’t open on my computer. It loads in and then says that the website is not responding. All earlier versions worked just fine.

  3. Wow..someone sure has been busy!!! Looks incredible, so bummed I forgot to RSVP for the demo last weekend, but glad you were able to share the latest work with us.

Sadly my computer is DYING when trying to run this one, I don’t think I’ve ever heard the fan go so loud – ha! :) But definitely easy to see how far it’s come since the last update. So incredible, thank you for sharing your passion project with all of us.

  4. I had the same problem.
I tried the version before 15 and it worked perfectly but when i tried 15, unity crashed on me.
i have tried internet explorer, google chrome, and firefox
it doesn’t work or is extremely slow
    anyone got any ideas?
i didn’t get then chance to go out to epcot for the 30th and have been waiting for this update ever since
i really hope to see it soon :)

  5. Amazing work on this latest version! So many of the scenes are spot on, and you even got the feeling of the IMAX section. Thanks for giving us all the chance to ride Horizons again!

  6. It crashed for me too on Chrome.

  7. Same here….progress bar gets all the way done, there is a slight pause with a small rectangular black area of the screen, and then it crashes the unity player. Any suggestions? Really looking forward to this!!!

  8. It also crashed on me. It fully loaded, then Unity died :( Really excited to see it too!

  9. Yeah, seems like the file might be getting too big for on demand loading. And it’s not even complete yet!

I’m not sure how Unity works, but if all the info is kept on one file, maybe set up that file to be downloaded from a filesharing service, and then we can download and run it off our desktop. Would save your server and bandwidth from dying once this thing gets even bigger, and make it so people aren’t memory-ing out loading it up in the browser.

  10. Yep. Also crashed for me, trying both Chrome and IE 9.

  11. Seeing how I have never exerienced Horizons and only get to see videos on youtube I felt like I was actually on the ride on the 30th. Thank you sooo much for presenting this amazing simulation!!!!!

  12. It just crashed for me too on Chrome. It loaded the data, then Unity crashed.

  13. Very nice. Downloaded and played great at 2560×1600 at Fantastic graphic quality.

What great progress you have made Chris! You’re a great man to take on such a project, hats off to you sir!

One issue I have is the lack of freedom. To be able to walk around outside and look at the beauty that is Horizons from all angles and inside Hoot & Chief style, would be much better. It’s too much like a interactive video than VR this way. I think it’s more immersive the more freedom you have.

  14. The downloaded version worked great for me! I also agree with Greg that I like the freedom to walk around and explore everything. Is there any way to have an option for a ride-through or an exploration mode? Just a suggestion. :-) By the way, thank you so much for the chance to view this simulation in person at WDW on Monday. It was awesome!

  15. Totally agree about the lack of freedom. I am stoked about the progress you’ve made, but I do hope the next simulation returns to free-roam. Not that I’m going to stop following this project of anything. :P

  16. Tried it out and it works great in the download! It looks wonderful! Thanks for bringing back the good memories. I look forward to seeing what you improve in the next version!

  17. You made the butler! Fantastic work – Nova Cite looks great.

  18. Just keeps getting better. Lots of new goodies in here. Keep up the great work!!!

  19. Another impressive update! The browser version cashed, but the Mac download worked. I also found it more CPU intensive than previous simulations, but maybe that’s because you have so much more going on here. And I have to also echo the request for more freedom again. Although I did manage to break free from my ride car and spend 15 minutes running around the lobby before falling through the floor & running around outside and under (!!!) the building.

Still, I love all the new content and can’t wait to see more of it built out. Sorry our finances didn’t allow a trip to see your setup at E30. I bet it was a blast!

  20. As one of those late bloomer EPCOT lovers, this was AMAZING! The only thing is my computer could hardly take the magic of even the fastest resolution. I was afraid it would crash my computer before everything was over.

  21. I too ad a problem with my computer… it lagged the whole ride through even on the lowest quality setting. I tough I wouldn’t even reach the ride itself.

I hope Chris make a video (posted on youtube or else) where he would show the whole thing on the highest quality setting so we could all experience the simulation the way it’s supposed to. If not Chris, who can make that happen.

  22. Wow. Huge leap. Coolest project ever. Can’t wait for the animatronics to be “installed.”

  23. For those commenting on lack of freedom…there is a jump button! Hop on the ride and shortly after it gets started pull a hootnchief and hop out. You’l end up below the ride, but you can walk out towards the front and through the “ground” and end up out front ith the loop playing and can move around.

There are simple placeholders for WoM and UoE, and SSE of course (though it has the tombstones out front). Only problem is, you can’t really get back in as the doors don’t auto-open. But you could explore all that after the ride anyway.

    Amazing work guys, love it!

  24. I need help. I’m trying to look at the simulation version 15 but every I download the simulation, it tells me that Unity had closed unexpectdly and that I have to send a error report.

  25. This is incredible! I can’t believe what you have accomplished so far. Brilliant work, it far exceeded my expectations.

  26. Sorry to report it also crashed in a big way. I tried the standalone.
